Oh, what a tangled web we weave!

But I guess that’s what happens when
you come and go as you please.

I remember when we were young,
reckless and sure these things wouldn’t happen to us. We haven’t been the same since
those days when we would play
in fields of “the world’s tallest grass”
that stretched on until it reached the moon.
This childlike splendor that used to pull me through
is now just a far off memory and so are you

It’s funny how things change every day.
Your eyes are cold while mine are filled with concern. You’re here in front of me,
but you’ve never felt further away.
I’d give anything to go back to the way things were.

But at least we haven’t forgotten
what feeling is the best.
It’s not the one that makes you gasp for air
but the one of knowing
there’s something moving in your chest.
The flower that still blossoms in the snow
And I know why you hide your feelings
it’s convenience of control.
But I looked at you and you’re still my age
but you look awfully old.

We are afraid to cry.
Afraid to show weakness in our brother’s eyes.
This existence we haven’t yet embraced.
Why for? It’s a shallow farce, a lost cause, a fool’s race. We have made all the wrong choices
but we won’t come clean.
We are forever indebted to what we don’t mean.
